NBA 2K20 Pays Homage to Kobe Bryant
2020-02-20 10:52

NBA 2K20 players and basketball fans were shaken by the death of Kobe Bryant. He was one of the most famous basketball players. Just like his remarkable career and great accomplishments, his death did not go unnoticed. Fans all around the world mourned his passing. NBA 2K20 paid homage to this great player as well. The game's home screen has a large banner. It depicts the player's profile on a black background showing his name and the date of birth and death. It resembles a funeral stone.

This is the first image players see as they start the game. A few hours later the same image was added to the Neighborhood. This is one of the most popular game modes. It provides players with a hub from where they can access game activities and other features but also with a place to just stroll around and hang out. This is where players gather for events or just to relax in the company of like-minded people. It was only fitting that the NBA 2K20 Kobe Bryant homage to be in this area.

The Neighborhood features a billboard in Bryant's honor. It shows the same image as the home screen. The billboard is available on all platforms so all players can pay tribute to Kobe. But the players came up with their own way of honoring the late basketball player.

Players put on Bryant's Lakers jersey and walked around in the Neighborhood. Some even made customized gear. The Neighborhood was filled with players wearing Los Angeles Lakers gear and emoting to show their respect to the player. Kobe Bryant wore numbers 8 and 24 while being with this team. NBA 2K20 players and also NBA players took 8-second and 24-second long shot clock violations to honor Kobe. Players uploaded in-game videos on Twitter of matches where them and their opponents took the break in Kobe's remembrance.

The NBA 2K Reddit is also full of homages. One player uploaded an NBA 2K18 clip where it was playing with Bryant. Another posted screenshots from the game with the player. A user posted the intro to NBA 2K10 which features Bryant as the cover athlete. Another one suggested an in-game Bryant-themed challenge. The community paid their respects in the most diverse ways. One made a collage of Kobe Bryant in-game and real life pictures. Numerous fans expressed their regrets on social media.

Kobe Bryant was only 41 years old when the helicopter he was in with eight other people crashed. There were no survivors.
